PHLEGETHON is a multidisciplinary and cross-institutional research collaboration involving leading academic and medical research institutions from Denmark and Norway.
The name “Phlegethon” derives from Greek mythology and denotes a river in the underworld. The name alludes to the research network’s seek to identify common undercurrents in the social and political development as these are expressed by the professional practice in the institutions involved in rehabilitation process’ in the Scandinavian Welfare State.
The overall research topic of the network is contemporary societal and political trends in the Scandinavian Welfare States that cut across sectors and institutions and hereby affect professional practice in health and welfares services. More concretely the focus will be on the rehabilitation of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and/or stroke, in order to elucidate some of the mechanisms underlying health inequalities.
